Harvest is 100% manual and grapes are destemmed before fermentation. Pneumatic press used. Fermentation is done in the traditional “Beaujolaise” style (carbonic maceration) for 12 to 15 days in stainless steel. Ageing is also in stainless steel. Varietals 100% Black Gamay (Gamay a jus blanc) Tasting notes It has a lovely raspberry color and brilliant hue. The nose is both refined and intense, with notes of violet, peony and red fruit syrup. As you drink it, it fells fresh and silky. Both freshness and fruit remain for quite a long time on the palate. In 2008 Magali Mathray joined her husband Gérard Gelin who owned the Domaine des Nugues with his father since 1976. The estate is located in the Nothern Beaujolais, around the crus of Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie and Morgon. Magali and Gerard’s 15 hectares of vineyard have developed an extraordinary following, and justifiably so. The vineyards are bordered on either side by Morgon to the west and Fleurie to the east. The vines average forty years in age and the quality of the fruit grown on this hillside site is extraordinary. There are even some vines that have reached an age of over a century. The wines made here are never artificially adjusted and are richer and denser than many Cru Beaujolais. As keeping with the finest tradition, all fruit is hand-harvested and wholecluster vinified. Tasting of only the pure fruit flavors of unadulterated Beaujolais, they evolved beautifully with bottle aging.
